Johnny smiled. “Really? Aww.” Johnny admired how Elizabeth needed him to sleep. His scent. Something to calm her. “So, how are you evie. Doing anything fun?” Johnnys parents just sat in the livin room and watched Johnny on the phone.Johnny woke up and went downstairs. He walked to the phone and called Evie. “Good Morning Beautiful. How are you two? Did she sleep?” he yawned and rubbed his eye. His parents walked downstairs o see what was going on.Johnny didn’t dream of much that night. Only about Elizabeth and Eve and why he thought they would be doing while he was gone. He missed them. It would be the longest he’d be away from Elizabeth and he couldn’t stand it. I wanted to be with his daughter, but knew this was important if e wanted his daughter Ti meet her family.Johnny looked at his mom. He gave her a hug. He couldn’t say it’s ok, because it’ll never be ok. But he thanked her anyway. “I love you mom.” he meant it. Even if he hated her at times, she was his mother and he loved her. Hi let go of the hug and laid back down. He watched his mom though. he moved over to the wall so she had room on the bed. She could sit on the bed instead of the edge if she wanted. He slowly fell back asleep.Johnny’s mom walked into his room halfway through the night. She ran her hand over his hair and smiled. He woke up and just stared at her. “I’m sorry about your father, Johnny.” Johnny sat up. “He told me what happened.” Johnny looked at his stomach. He lifted his shirt a bit and just stated at his stomach. It was starting to bruise, but that would be the worst that would happen. He hugged his mom. He knew she was just as much to blame about his child hood, but at least she was trying to change.“I’m sorry. I’m just…tired.” he was really just hoping it would make his stomach hurt less if he slept. “I love you both. Tell Elizabeth I’ll be back soon. Kiss her forehead for me when you put her to sleep. I always do that.” he slowly hung up the phone. And want back to his room. He laid down and just closed his eyes. He tried Ti fall asleep.Johnny smiled when he heard elizabeth scream into the phone. “Hi. I miss you baby.” he would just listen to Elizabeth scram and laugh and try to speak into the phone. Sally just looked at evie. “Whys he there? He’ll get hurt!” Sally started walking towards the door. Johnn waited for evie to take the phone back. “Hey. I’m going to go to sleep. But don’t worry. I’ll call you every morning and every night. I love you.”Johnny smiled when he heard evies voice. “Hey. How are you doing? How’s Elizabeth?” Johnny stood by the phone and just smiled as she spoke. Dally knew by the way evie was acting it was Johnny on the phone. “Where is he? I need to show him something.” dally said to evie. Johnny just stayed on the other end of the phone.Johnny closed his eyes web his dad went to hit him. He didn’t think he’d stop before he did. When his dad spoke and left the room, Johnny opened his eyes. “I know. You’ve said that before.” he had. And he had beat him. He had always ended up at Ponys after. Johnny closed his door and changed. He put on pajama pants and a new shirt. He walked downstairs and called evie like he promised.Johnn stood up and took off his jacket. “I was actually. I was caught in a fire. The doctors said it was a miracle only got the burns I did and an even bigger one I lived! Do you see the burns on my neck? That’s not even all of them. I have them all over my body. My chest, back legs. Mom didn’t even care the day she came. She just wanted to yell at me.” Johnny just looked at his dad. He put his jacket back on and poppe the collar. He sat back on his bed and leaned agains the wall.Johnny gasped and curled into a ball after his father hit him. He had knocked the wind out of him. “I don’t know where the fucking beer is.” he tried Ti say as calmly as he could as soon as he could talk. “But I guess you’d rather have your beer than see your granddaughter.” Johnny didn’t bother standing up. He knew it would hurt too much. “Why can’t you just got five days?” Johnny was pleading. “I grew up with out anybody to call family. No grandparent, my parents were barely there for me. I don’t want my daughter growing up like that. So why can’t you just do this one thing for me? Did you even know I was in the hospital last year? I almost died an you never came! Do you know how that felt? To know your own parents don’t even care about you! My daughter will never have to feel that way.”Johnny’s father stared at him when he stood up and took a step forward, yelling straight back. Johnny had never done that before and it was a bit scary to him. He frowned a bit before remembering why he was in there. He pushed Johnny on the bed, hitting him hard in the stomach, “you’re the fucking reason why she took all the beer, where is it?!”
(…I’m so bad at writing abuse. This is horrible. xD)
There was a silence for a few minutes. His father was sober enough to hear and understand what his son had said. There was a craving inside of him that he needed to fulfil. When he wasn’t drinking he sweat, shook and got more violent. If it was more then a few hours. In the morning, he would get up and wait an hour and then start drinking. It had been longer then an hour. There was no hope for him.
“You weren’t in the hospital,” he yelled, glaring at his son, “I would’ve known! your mother would have told me!”
Johnny’s dad immediantly started breathing hard, as if holding back the hardest hit he could conjur up.
“A fire?” his father said, looking at the burns on his son. His eyebrows raised for a moment before they went back to their normal place, furrowed together. His look was hard as he looked at his son put on his jacket and lean against the wall. For a quick second he went to hit him but stopped halfway through before turning; defeated.
“If you fucking bug me, I’m going to beat you,” was all he said before leaving the room. The argument was pety. He didn’t have a come back to Johnny being burnt.
Evie ran to the phone when she heard it ringing. She had to bring Elizabeth with her. She answered the phone, her voice a bit uneven from dashing from one side of the house to the other, “hello?”
Dally came downstairs, looking at Evie with a raised eyebrow. He hadn’t realized until now that Johnny was gone. He wanted to show hima picture in his magazine. Dallas hardly looked at magazines but when he did it was usually a playboy he borrowed off of Tim.
Evie tried to wave Dally away but he wouldn’t leave. She held Elizabeth and spoke into the phone, “she’s right here, hold on.”
Evie held the phone to Elizabeth’s ear. Elizabeth screamed into the phone and took it, not knowing what it was. Evie laughed a bit and Dally was waiting for an answer.
“He’s at his parents,” Evie finally told him. Dally looked pissed.
When Evie had the phone back, the first thing she did was yell after Dally, telling him to get back in the house. Evie watched Dally glare at her and walk up the stairs. He wanted to s how Johnny the magazine and wanted to make sure he was safe.
“Oh…alright, g’night. I love you too. We both love you,” Evie was referring to Elizabeth and herself and smiled a bit even though he couldn’t see her. She waited for him to hang up the phone before hanging it up herself.
Evie mumbled a final goodbye before walking up the stairs with Elizabeth. She lied down with her in Johnny’s room. She knew she liked the smell of him so she wouldn’t take her away from that. Elizabeth cuddled into the blankets. Smaking her lips together once or twice she fell into a sleep.
His mother thought about the times where she would yell but she was drunk when she did and was taking out her problems on him.
“I’m sorry,” she muttered and crossed her arms. His mother nodded at Johnny an walked out of theroom, crossing her arms and finding her way back to her own room, clossing the door beind her.
The next mrning evie got up and waited for somebody to call. She crossed her arms and yawned. Of course, she had to move Elizabeth into the nursery. She brought her with Johnnys blanket so she could sleep.
It was obvious his parents were more sober. His dad was quiet and his mom seemed content.
Evie on the other line was smiling, “yeah, we slept in your room so she could sleep. When I moed er to her nursery your blanket went with her.” Evie let a small laugh fill the air around her, she crossed her arms, holding the phone up to her ear.
“Yeah, walkingaround the house naked,” Evie responded before looking over at her dad who sat at the kitchen table. He didn’t seem fazed, “how about you?”
Johnny woke up and went downstairs. He walked to the phone and called Evie. “Good Morning Beautiful. How are you two? Did she sleep?” he yawned and rubbed his eye. Evie wasn’t going to argue with Soda. It was hard to argue with him at all. She looked at him and covered his mouth with her hand befre speaking, “school was the dumbest thing i’ve ever gone to and I’m not going back.”
Soda was suprised when she put her hands over his mouth. He laughed .. “OK! ALRIGHT, i get it!” He muffled. “Fair enough,” He laughed when Evie removed her hand.
Evie laughed with Soda and shook her head a bit. She stood up from the ground, wiping the grass that stuck to her legs. She looked at Soda for a few seconds before questioning, “when do you think you’ll be outta that thing?”
She was referring to the wheel chair in which he sat in, trapped. She raised her eyebrows, waiting for a response to her question. She forced a small smile before looking up at his house. The lights were mostly off, there was no doubt Darry was sitting in there, waiting for Soda. She thought about just telling him they were on the porch. She remembered to well the day that Darry told Soda he’d skin him if he stayed out with Evie too late.
He sat up, and felt his ribs. “I dunno, maybe tomorrow if Darry’l let me.” He sighed. “You rekon you could help me get inside?” He laughed. “Ill push with my feet and all, just bring the back wheels up on the steps alright?”
“Can’t we get Darry to do it?” Evie questioned. She looked at him with raised eyebrows. Before she even thought about it, she wheeled Soda to the stairs and waited for him to try and help her. She pushed on the back of the wheelchair, putting all her weight into it.
Soda kicked up from the ground, holding his ribs. It didnt take that long to get up the three or four stairs. “See, that wasnt so hard now was it?” Soda laughed. “Thanks.”
“That wasn’t fun at all,” Evie said before sticking her tongue out at him and just sitting on the arm of his wheelchair, looking at the empty street. She turned a bit to look at Soda. She pointed up at the sky to show him a star that seemed to be brighter then all the others. Evie looked up at the moon and spoke slowly, “remember when they sent that guy up to space for a bit? you think they’ll ever get anyone on the moon, soda?”
“i rekon they will one day, Not for a long time, but one day.” He sighed and wondered what it would be like up there, all alone, all quiet. “It sure is a long way away.”
Evie nodded in agreement when he told her that it was a long way up. It was very true.
“It’s very…very far ain’t it?”“How far do you rekon it goes?” Soda looked at Evie. “Space, i mean.”
“Forever,” Evie said before pushing him into the house, getting up from the chair. Evie smiled a bit at him and shook her head. Darry looked up at them.
Soda wheeled his chair in. “What about you Darry? How long do you think Space goes for?” Darry shook his head and gave a small rare smile.
“Dunno, kid,” Darry said, chuckling. Evie looked at him and raised her eyebrows. She hardly saw Darry now a days. It was nice to see a familiar face.
“Hey Darry,” she mumbled.“Hey Evie.” Darry said. “How is everything?” He asked. Soda was suprised at the politeness of Darry, but didnt question it.
“Everythings okay,” Evie said, shrugging a bit and looked at him, giving him her best smile, “what do you say to lettin soda outta his wheelchair tomorrow?”
Evie looked over at Soda. She never saw him as handsome anymore and when she did she would push it aside.“Yeah, Dar, How about it?” Soda said.
“We’ll see how you are in the mornin’ Pepsi, alright?” Darry replied.Soda beamed at Darry then at Evie. “I guess i’ll see ya tomorrow then, Evie.”
Evie nodded, dreading the walk home. She looked at the door and frowned a bit efore looking at Darry then Soda, “night then.” With her words, Evie stepped out of the house, shovering and rubbing her hands on her arms. She got home alright.
Evie wasn’t going to argue with Soda. It was hard to argue with him at all. She looked at him and covered his mouth with her hand befre speaking, “school was the dumbest thing i’ve ever gone to and I’m not going back.”

“Hey Darry,” she mumbled.
